This is Vitez smiling in his new home near Albany, New York.
This is Laszlo, Vitez's new "brother."
Vitez explores his new home.
This is Vitez on the left with his new "sister" Bonnie.
And we won't forget Moonshine the donkey, Vitez's new pal!
Susan, Vitez's rescuer and new family, describes Vitez's journey through rescue:
Vitez is home with me
He is adjusting to his new life
He was happy in his last home and doesn't understand what happened.
But he has a barn mate, Bonnie, another kuvasz rescue
Together they will make a new life
There is Szoki in Vermont who was a strong advocate for Vitez, whose owner was going to put him down rather than see him go to a home where he might be abused. Szoki hung in there with Szilvia (owner's daughter) and convinced the family he was worth saving. Szilvia and Vitez and family live in Canada.
Szilvia's parent were moving from their home and couldn't take him. Vitez has always been an outside dog, so living inside was out of the question.
And there is Kathleen Dahmer, who lives near the Canadian border, and offered to drive to the border to get him and then drive to Syracuse to meet me and my husband and transfer him to me.
Szilvia found someone to drive him to the US border (2 hours) Kathleen drove about 3 hours, and then we took him home( 3 hours)
Poor puppy....a really long and difficult trip, leaving his only home where he was so loved.
I can't leave out Olga Schmidt who is the breeder who was also looking for a home for him. She would have taken him back, I understand, but had some health issue and couldn't.
I have rescued Kuvaszok before and had an empty kennel in the barn where Bonnie was living as the only dog. I had been looking for the right dog for her, and Vitez came along.
That's pretty much it. We are at the 1 week mark with him. He is the sweetest Kuvasz. Very unkuvasz like. Wags his tail all the time, comes when he's called, respectful to Bonnie (Vitez has not been neutered).
